Veteran programs offered locally in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Jessica Lynch, a former Prisoner of War is now the West Virginia Department of Women Veterans Program Director. With that being her role, her mission is to get as many women into the offices to get them the help they deserve.

“Right now, I am working with female veterans to kind of get them into the office and really work with them about, you know, going over their claims, see what’s there, see if we can get them a little bit more benefits.” said Lynch.

This program is designed to assist all veterans. Both women and men are encouraged to visit the office and seek the help they need.

“So my goal right now is honestly trying to get as many men and women. I know I am the women’s veterans coordinator right now, but again, we are just trying to get as many veterans into the office because a lot of them do not know where we are located, and again, we have some wonderful VSOs, Veteran Service Officers at that location.” added Lynch.

The new location for the veteran’s assistance office is 1824 Murdoch Avenue, located at St. Joseph’s Landing. The office is in Suite 101 on the first floor.

“We are bringing it to this location strictly because we are lacking female veterans coming into the office. We are very low and, again, not really sure why we don’t have a lot of our female veterans coming through, but that’s our hope is to make sure we get them in there.” said Lynch.
